Top 5 Things You Should Know Before Buying Marine Flooring

1. Not All “Foam” Flooring Is the Same

Many marine flooring products use very soft EVA foam that can stain easily, tear quickly, fade quickly, and wear prematurely. At YachtDEK, we use high-density P-EVA materials that are tougher, more durable, and more resistant to staining, fading, and everyday wear — helping the deck maintain its appearance much longer over time.

2. Precision Measuring Matters
We do not use generic “kits.” Every boat is individually measured and templated to achieve an exact fit. Precise measuring creates cleaner lines, tighter tolerances, and a more professional finished appearance.
3. Surface Preparation Is Critical
A marine deck is only as good as the preparation underneath it. Proper adhesive removal, cleaning, and priming are essential for long-term durability. When needed, we also use adhesive primers and additional PSA layers to improve bond strength and performance.

4. Light Amplification Is a Real Issue

Heat buildup and reflected light can become a serious problem on certain boats depending on color choices, layout, and surrounding surfaces. We discuss “light amplification” with every customer and help select colors and designs that reduce heat and glare whenever possible. Although our high-density P-EVA materials can withstand higher temperatures than many standard EVA products, proper color selection and layout design still play a major role in long-term performance and comfort.

5. Installation Experience Matters

Marine flooring is more than simply cutting foam. Layout design, seam placement, drainage paths, edge finishing, and installation technique all affect the final result. Experience plays a major role in how the flooring looks, performs, and lasts over time.
